Experience
I received a bachelor's degree in Honors Anthropology from the University of Michigan. I've been teaching and tutoring both high school and college students for more than five years. My special focus is on areas of high school to college transition, such as Math, Writing, Research, pre-college standardized test preparation and admissions essays. However, I am also an experienced subject matter tutor in a variety of areas, including Grammar, American History, Social Studies, and Science. In my experience, the most important thing a tutor can do to really benefit a student is to remain open and adaptable, understanding that each student is a different person with different needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Communication is key, and injecting lessons and interactions with a bit of personality and humor helps to keep the student engaged and build a more effective tutoring relationship. Although education is my first love, I am a law school graduate with legal practice experience, and as such have a solid basis in research, public speaking, and persuasive writing. Regardless of the subject matter, I bring those skills and experiences to each lesson. Outside of work, I'm a technology buff, and enjoy cooking and traveling.
